LG, telcos caught in sweeping telecoms market clampdown by NCC

The LG Optimus 3D – P920 phone which its Korean maker prides as world's 1st "tri-dual" configuration: a Dual Core, Dual Channel, Dual Memory architecture based on the groundbreaking technology is being sold in the Nigeria market without approval, the Nigerian telecoms regulator has said.

Lagos. August 15, 2013: Korean phone maker LG, several value added service (VAS) providers and mobile telephone companies have become the latest victims of sweeping clampdowns by the telecoms industry regulator over alleged breach of industry rules.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) said that some of the affected companies were sanctioned for offences ranging from sale of phone handsets that were not type-approved, sending of spam SMS, erection of masts without approval, sale of pre-registered SIM cards, SIM card registration deadline default, among other alleged breaches.
